Thesis Subject:
For my Master's thesis I plan to explore how the gutless oligochaete O. algarvensis has adapted to survive in nitrogen-limited environments and how its symbionts have taken over the function of the nephridia to internally recycle nitrogenous host waste products. To achieve this, I will utilize a variety of tools including metagenomics, metatranscriptomics, metaproteomics, protein phylogenies and 16S rRNA FISH.
